Guilt-Free Chocolate Mousse

Yes! You read that right!  This is absolutely guilt-free.  This mousse has NO sugar, no dairy, no eggs… AND it is ridiculously quick to make.  I came up with this treat while doing a detox program several years ago and have made a few variations since then.  Many of my clients have heard me talk about this and I’ve often recommended it for people who are trying to shake their sweet tooth.  It’s perfectly appropriate for diabetics and is 100% vegan.

When I first made it, I giggled the entire time I was eating it!  Because I couldn’t believe something THIS good can actually be good for me, help me with detoxification, boost feel-good neurotransmitters, provide plentiful antioxidants and be an unparalleled source of potassium and magnesium. My friend Taraleigh called it “the best dessert she’s ever had!”

All of that said, this is a treat. There is such a thing as “too much of a good thing.”  In excess, chocolate can contribute to adrenal exhaustion.  In excess, fructose (the sugar in fruit) will increase your triglycerides.  So yes, even though this is all natural, you still want to practice moderation.  Vary your foods and focus always on green leafy veggies.

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (I use raw cacao as it is much more of a superfood)
  • A tiny splash of liquid (almond milk, coconut milk, water)
  • A splash of vanilla (generous if you like vanilla taste)
  • A generous sprinkling of cinnamon

Variations:  You can add walnuts, 1 tbsp almond butter, dried coconut flakes… the sky is the limit.  I really like adding the almond butter to give it a richer texture and a Nutella-like quality, but it really isn’t absolutely necessary.


Put all of the ingredients in a blender.  Keep the liquid to a minimum so it won’t be too runny.  Blend until smooth (or if you’re adding walnuts, you can keep them as chunky as you like).  Serve in a parfait cup to complete the dessert experience.  Delight in the simplicity and deliciousness of this treat.

If you want more of an ice-cream temperature and consistency, put it in the freezer for 20 minutes or so.

    Delicious! You likely know their is a variation on this made with a ripe avocado and a bit of coconut milk (vanilla and cacao).
